John Walter is a Brooklyn based artist and actor. He was born in Troy N.Y. and came to New York City in 1982. He moved there for its beautiful madness and man-made canyons, not to mention it’s incredible night club scene (at that time). He worked the doors of many downtown clubs and began acting and modeling. He appeared in GQ and several other magazines. John made his Off-Broadway debut in the hit show Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. He has also appeared in several short films, plays, and television shows. John started painting around 15 years ago on an epiphanic whim and hasn’t stopped since. John has worked on exclusive art projects for Temperance Bar NYC AND Moncler (New York and LA).
Artist Statement
My work is a channeling of the constant stream of words and images that the city relentlessly throws at me. I take these bite-sized chunks of madness and make them palpable through humor. I’m especially inspired by the language, symbols, and signs that strive to give us just the brute facts, but often fail—sometimes miserably and comically. I mostly work in black and white which lends a certain austerity and noise-reducing relief to our current conditions.
